Limejump win Grid Edge Award at S&P Platts Global Energy Awards

Winners unveiled on December 9th at black-tie event in New York City

NEW YORK ( December 9, 2021) – Limejump, the entech platform, today celebrates picking up the coveted ‘Grid Edge Award’ at the 23rd annual S&P Platts Global Platts Energy Awards, often described as the ‘Oscars’ of energy. Our nomination was for the end-to-end engineering approach and our innovative optimisation of Europe’s largest battery (Minety, Wiltshire), which went live in July 2021.

Limejump flourished when given the opportunity to integrate controls and provide ‘first of its kind’ optimisation services for the 100MW Minety battery. Limejump successfully, onboarded Minety into National Grid’s Dynamic Containment (DC), thus making it the single biggest asset to date. Minety has only been in operation for a short amount of time but has already delivered on behalf of its owners Huaneng Group Limited and project originators Penso Power Limited, and supported the grid with much needed flexibility in real time. Limejump is very excited about the future of intelligent battery optimisation and looks forward to continuing to innovate in this space with more batteries being added to the platform next year.

Cat Newman @Minety

Our CEO, Cat Newman, who was in attendance, commented: “We are dedicated to achieving our vision of optimising a 100% renewable energy future, and in order to achieve that, we need to onboard and intelligently control both renewable generation assets and flexible energy storage assets. It has been a privilege optimizing Europe’s largest battery, the project, from start to go live date, has been a huge collaboration effort between all project stakeholders.” She added ‘Being recognized by S&P Global Platts Energy Awards and the judges is the cherry on the cake, an accolade that the team and I are very proud of.”

Saugata Saha, President of S&P Global Platts, said: “S&P Global Platts is committed to advancing data and analytical technology solutions to help digitalize the energy industry as it transitions to a more sustainable energy future.  It was inspirational to celebrate the meaningful achievements of this year’s Global Energy Awards winners and finalists, which ranged from technology innovation, to efficiency gains, to green-hydrogen development, to embracement of carbon-free targets, to empowerment of women in energy, and so much more.”

About Minety

In September 2020, Shell, Limejump and Penso Power signed a contract to trade the power output from the largest battery storage asset in Europe, with a capacity of 100 MW.

Limejump, Huaneng Group Limited and Penso Power collaborated for over a year to secure this game changing project. Limejump’s experience and commercial acumen, backed by Shell’s creditworthiness by guaranteeing a minimum revenue from the battery, encouraged investors to commit and support the project in Minety, Wiltshire. Minety went live in July 2021 as is already supporting the grid with much needed flexibility. Limejump’s Engineering team has been instrumental in the energisation of the Minety battery. The team has designed and implemented a system by which Limejump can integrate, and remotely dispatch stored energy when the grid requests it…within 1 second.  This was achieved by installing our control panels on site, plugged directly into the battery’s local controllers.
